Okay, so I got to thinking...

Beginning the
Road Back
start of the road to recovery

July 3, 2008 was the day of awakening -- the day when you awaken to the discovery that you have coronary heart disease. Hey, I’m too young for that, and those kinds of things only happen to other guys. Well, welcome to realizm. At least now I know why I have had trouble breathing at higher elevations. The heart has been stressed out from extended high blood pressure and basically got muscle bound.

The good news here, if anything, is that I have all the more incentive to eat properly. My cardiologist and a few friends have strongly urged me to get that infamous lap band. I've been studying up on the procedure, and I don't like what I see. Nevertheless, if I am unable to make a significant change by the end of this summer, I will consider having the surgery in September. However, my research shows there are still too many complications from such a surgery. There is also a misconception by many that it is the miracle surgery. You still have to diet and exercise regularly. As one traumatized lap band patient said, "Don't do it. You are better off just telling yourself you had it done, and then eat properly and exercise."

My tracker is noted above. I think my fear of "the band" is even greater than the fear of further heart failure, so I have even greater incentive to reach my regular weight loss goals. Just this week I have lost 7 pounds, so things are going in the right direction, and by a sensible change in eating lifestyle. My cardiologist also provided me phentermine and that seems to be helping a little. I was a bit apprehensive at first since phentermine is a derivative of the phen phen drug that was killing people not too many years ago, but my cardiologist recommended it, and he must know what he's doing. After all, he did save my life, eh?
